      What is bookkeeping?

Simply put, bookkeeping is the process in which you use to record your company’s financial transactions. Those going out, those coming in, thus determining how much money you have made as a business.

How is bookkeeping different from accounting?

Bookkeeping is a subset of accounting. Accounting can’t be done without bookkeeping. A Bookkeeper would take care of both the purchase and sales ledgers and ensure they’re in tip-top condition, ready for your Accountant and the HMRC. Accounting gives you the overview and insight to be a better business.

I have an Accountant; why do I need a Bookkeeper?

This largely depends on whether or not your Accountant also looks after your books. Some do, some don’t. Some Accountants prefer to be just that, an Accountant.

Why would I hire a Bookkeeper?

Bookkeepers are the essential people behind the scenes, the unsung heroes. A Bookkeeper will save you time and will handle all the daily financial work, which you’re likely not adequately qualified for, especially if you’re a smaller business. You’re probably already doing too many other jobs as well as your own, so why not leave the important stuff to your Bookkeeper. You’ll be able to sleep at night knowing all your numbers have been taken care of and nothing has gone awry.

Can J R Ledgers work with my Accountant?

Absolutely yes. If your Accountant isn’t the bookkeeping type, then give J R Ledgers a call and we can provide all your financial stats to your Accountant in readiness for them to do their thing. Between us, you’re in good hands. We already work with several Accountants on this basis.

Does J R Ledgers need to come to my premises?

Yes, if you’d like us to; no if you’d rather not. It would be great to meet you in person initially to set the ball rolling, but these days, the bookkeeping process can all be done digitally, even the dreaded receipts that you possibly store in a shoe box!
